Snowdens take Aim at the Golden Eagle
He doesn't boast the best strike rate, but the Peter and Paul Snowden-trained Aim certainly knows when there are high stakes on offer.
The four-year-old has won four out of his 16 starts including the $501,000 Silver Eagle and more importantly the $2 million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas back in January.
The Star Witness gelding gets another opportunity to put some serious money in the bank when he lines up in the $7.5 million Golden Eagle this weekend at Rosehill Gardens.
The Golden Eagle is in it's third year of existence, following wins by Godolphin's Collette last year and the Chris Waller-trained Kolding in the inaugural running in 2019.
Co-trainer Peter Snowden admits it's a strong affair and also a tricky one to do the form for.
"There's a few internationals there that we don't know much about," Snowden said.
"It's one of those intriguing races where it's hard to marry up all the form.
"And we don't know much about (race favourite) I'm Thunderstruck in Sydney."
Aim comes into this race in solid form following a handy win in the lead-up event, the Silver Eagle. The fast-finishing victory took his earnings over the $1.6 million mark and Snowden believes the $200,000 yearling purchase can be competitive in the rich 7 1⁄2 f affair.
"I'm happy with our bloke, he won the Silver Eagle quite well," Snowden said.
"He gets good ground, which he likes. He's a bit older now and a bit tougher.
"He worked really good this morning so he's going into it in good shape."
Aim currently sits at $26 in the betting with the TAB with I'm Thunderstruck race favourite at $4.50.
