Other big league races to look out for on the Australian racing calendar are the W.S Cox Plate and the Victoria Derby. Spring and autumn are the busiest periods on the Australian racing calendar when Sydney and Melbourne host their respective racing carnivals.
The Sydney Spring Racing Carnival runs from August to December and features six Group 1 stakes with several other Group 2 and 3 races in between. The Melbourne Spring Carnival comes around in mid-July but its high-profile G1 Stakes such as the Melbourne Cup, Cox Plate and Victoria Derby take center stage late spring.
